ROBERT W. WIER, a resident of Houston since 1899 is a prominent lumberman and business man. He is president of the R. W. Wier Lumber Company, which he organized in 1907; is president of the Central Lumber Company of Beaumont, and is treasurer of the Bonner Oil Company. In public and social life he is likewise prominent and is identified with a number of well known organizations.

Mr. Wier was born in Avoyelles parish, Louisiana, July 4, 1873, being a son of Thomas D. and Margaret (Campbell) Wier, both natives of Alabama. His father was a cotton factor at Mobile before the war and later was a cotton planter in Louisiana and Mississippi, his principal operations being conducted at Enterprise in the latter state. He was a soldier throughout the Civil war, being a member of Company B, of the Fourteenth Mississippi Infantry.

After completing his education in the high school at Evergreen, Louisiana, Robert W. Wier began his experience in the lumber business, learning it in all its details. Early in 1899 he located in Houston and was associated with various lumber concerns until the spring of 1907, when he organized the lumber company of which he is president. The Wier Lumber Company manufactures yellow pine lumber, its mill plant being located at Texla, Texas.

Mr. Wier is a member of the Democratic executive committee of the city of Houston. He was formerly a director of the Houston Business League. His affiliation with Masonry includes the 32d degree of Scottish Rite, with membership in Holland Lodge, No. 1, A.F.& A.M., Washington Chapter, No. 2. R.A.M., Ruthven Commandery, No. 2, El Mina Temple of the Mystic Shrine. He is a past exalted ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
